We will spend time exploring the unique character of different regions of Sicily, making three or four different stops on our journey. Staying at private estates farmhouses and boutique hotels, eating in kitchens, restaurants and the market, we will explore many niches of food production and tradition. The possibilities for threading together narratives of Sicilian culinary culture are many. On each trip, we take a somewhat different route through this land that is blessed in ingredients, tradition and variety.

Welcome to Sicilia! Check in to the hotel and gather in the evening for a sunset aperitivo and dinner to begin the culinary adventure.
Catania – Regaleali
We begin our first full day in Sicily by heading to the fabled fish market of Catania – a great way to immerse ourselves in Sicilian culture. Lunch will be enjoyed afterward at a local trattoria.
By later afternoon we arrive in Regaleali, at the estate of one of the most important wine-producers in Sicily and former home of renowned cook book author, Anna Tasca Lanza. We have been working with the Tasca Lanza family since the mid-1990s, and visiting their estate feels like coming home. Upon arrival, there will be time to relax and settle into our rooms before meeting for supper. The expanse of the “world of Regaleali” is breathtaking. One thousand acres of soft rolling hills are planted in vines. A walk through the rose garden will surely build up an appetite.
Breakfast in the kitchen. When we are finished eating fresh bread with homemade jams and local honey, we will be back with Anna for a lesson on focaccia ragusana and other particularly Sicilian quick breads.
Most of the food that will appear on the table during our stay at the estate is produced on the farm: fowl, lamb, sheep’s milk cheese, wheat, olive oil, vegetables and fruits.
Later in the afternoon, we will enjoy a hands-on cooking class with a dinner to follow.
This morning we are back in the kitchen for another fabulous cooking class with Fabrizia.
If the sheep are producing milk, it will give us an opportunity to taste fresh sheep’s milk ricotta, made in front of our eyes the old fashioned way by the shepherd with wood fire and wooden stirring spoons.
Later on in the day, we will explore the wine cellars of Regaleali with their immense oak barrels sure to impress. (A tasting of the various wines will accompany all meals.) Another class will follow with a focus on estate lamb and wild greens.
A feast will follow at ‘Case Vecchie.’
After breakfast: a lesson in pasta-making with Fabrizia and a lunch dictated by the garden and the season.
We will enjoy a leisurely afternoon and view the wonderful documentary written and produced by our very own Fabrizia on Sicily’s Sacred Festivals. A great view into the rich history of Sicily.
Dinner and wine tasting at Case Vecchie.
After breakfast, we leave for the Greek ruins of Agrigento, to the Valle dei Templi, Valley of the Temples. Picnic lunch.
We will return to Regaleali in the evening for our farewell dinner.
We enjoy a final breakfast at Regaleali before departing to Modica, a charming baroque town.
In there afternoon we will embark on a walking tour of the city and then enjoy some free time to explore the museums, cathedrals and shops.
Dinner will be enjoyed independently this evening, with excellent recommendations from Peggy.
In the morning, we are well embraced by our favorite chocolate shop, Dolceria Bonajuto, Sicily’s oldest sweet shop. Our dear friend, Pierpaolo Ruta will demonstrate (and we will sample) a few of his spectacular chocolates.
If time permits, we will stop by another fabulous baroque town, Not, on the way back to Catania. For lunch, we’ll enjoy a special surprise over lunch in Marzememi: one you can’t miss!
Finally, we’ll make our way to an elegant hotel located between the sea and the foot of Mt. Etna, Sicily’s famous volcano. After checking in, we’ll gather for dinner and enjoy the rest of the evening to relax by the pool, in our rooms, or to wander the candlelit grounds of the hotel. A fond farewell!
