Tribal Berber carpet from Taznakht, High Atlas.
In the Taznakht region, there were several weaving communities. This style has a well developed border, where the horizontal -vertical organization of patterns conveys an impression of stability, a circumstance of shifting sands from a more nomadic existence to a settled lifestyle. In this rug I see stars and a glimpse of the cosmos. I would love to take this carpet outside on a warm evening when the stars are out, light a candle and tell stories.
9’10” x 4’6”
Vintage circa 1960
