Unusual Berber Kilim

This piece is an unusual Berber Kilim from the Ourika Valley, located in the High Atlas Mountains.

For practical purposes, poetry reigns supreme. The Ourika Valley is lush. Olive trees and water run in the ditches good for irrigation. Tachelheit mud ovens bake flat khobz, made from the wheat that grows under the olives. This makes me think of Jalil’s garden, where we eat tagine over a few colorful carpets under the goat hair tent. Do you have a tent? I don’t, but there are times my cozy living room looks like one from layers of these flat-weave carpets.
